From Start to Finish

September 13, 2009

Although the project took a lot longer than expected, I wouldn't trade the last five years for anything in this world. Not only did we finish the restoration, but spending quality time with my boys, Ryan and Rudy, is something I'll always remember. Here is the history behind our 1971 restored Land Cruiser that you see below...

-- Originally purchased in 1974 to be used as a hunting vehicle.

-- After I turned 16, I drove the 'cruiser to high school and around town.

-- I took it up during my second year of college and kept it with me until I finished school.

-- After returning back to Calistoga, it was used strictly as a spare vehicle.

-- In 1985, I changed the color from baby blue to white.

-- After it had set idle for many years, we decided to get it in running condition in 2004. But, one thing led to another and before we knew it, a full restoration was underway.

-- The idea was to keep it as close to original as possible. In the last five years we took everything a part, installed power steering, new springs and shocks, primed and painted everything, new carpet and upholstery, custom rims and larger tires, header and new exhaust.

The last few weeks have been great to get the 'cruiser on the road and work out all the kinks (adjust brakes, steering, fix any unusual noises, etc). If you ever have the opportunity to take on a restoration project from start to finish, I recommend you do it! Yes the finished product will be great, but the moments you experience along the way is what truly matters most.

Look for the ‘cruiser on an unpaved road near you...
